I recently found myself talking to a friend and getting very heated about a certain situation. My friend, being a brilliant coach himself, asked me what was important to me about this? What core value of mine did I feel was being violated by this situation or people in it?

I stopped for a moment and really thought about it. AHA – I realized! Respect. R.E.S.P.E.C.T. <🎶sung to the tune of Aretha Franklin’s song, ofcourse 🎶> I felt like these people didn’t respect my experience, qualifications and time. And that, translated to didn’t respect me.

It now made sense. I understood what was important to me about this. You see, when we feel as if one of our Core Values is being violated, we get pretty hot under the collar.

Our Core Values are the ESSENCE of WHO WE ARE, as unique human beings. They motivate our actions and energize our vision. They are states of being. They are the reason we choose what to stand up for (and some die for). They connect our heart with our mind.

And now that I understood what it was really about, I could turn around and address it in the only place it really mattered – WITHIN ME.

What’s going on outside of us is a reflection of what’s going on inside.

I asked myself, where can I show myself more respect? Was it in my business? Some. Was it respect for my own ideas? Yes. My vision? Ooooh – that was it! I wasn’t fully and completely respecting and admiring the vision and dreams I had for my life!

Jonathan Fields, founder of The Good Life Project, said You will never get what you want from the way you contribute to the world until you learn to align your actions with your essence. And you can not do that until you know who you are.”

I have a few spots opening up in July for 1:1 private coaching. Now could be the right time for you to schedule a (free) 1 hour Discovery Call. Click here to set it up.
